The complex with the church is situated in the south-east part of Krnov, at so called Front Cvilin Hill. The church is a real dominant of Krnov town. It is effectively highlighted by the lights in the dark and well visible from afar. The church, whose towers dominate a wide surrounding area, is a baroque building with one main nave. The main altar, including the painting of Virgin Mary of Seven Sorrows, is perfectly harmonized with overall church decoration. On the evangelical side, the chapels are consecrated for St. Michael, Virgin Mary and St. Anna, while the epistles side is consecrated for St. John of Nepomuk, Divine Heart of Jesus and St. Lawrence.

A Pilgrimage tradition at Cvilin peak has been kept for over than 400 years. Since the 17th century, the painting of Virgin Mary has been said to have a legendary healing power. It is placed on the main altar. The church is open for public in the period of religious pilgrimages. They start on April 30 and finish with All Souls Day pilgrimage in the beginning of November. The Holy Mass is held every Sunday at 10 a.m. (except pilgrimages). The main pilgrimage is held on Sunday, closer the anniversary of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Between 1994 and 1996, the pilgrim house of St. Joseph was built. It mainly serves for friars and youth believers.

Between 2007 and 2008, the complex of chapels around the Virgin Mary Church, depicting the way of the cross, was reconstructed. Krnov town, also the owner of lands and chapels, became the main investor of these small sacral construction works. Moravskoslezsky County, citizens and companies of Krnov also financially supported the project. Way of the cross scenes, originally placed inside until 1980´s, came back to the reconstructed chapels. Paintings survived both World Wars and communist regime, nevertheless they did not resist the metal thieves’ spree just after the velvet Revolution.

The pilgrim church is a spiritual gem of Silesia and it is called “Silesian Krnov Hillock”.
